What is GSCN?

Practical meaning
GSCN identifies the synchronization raster point where a UE can search for SSB.

SSB helps UE detect the 5G cell, obtain PCI, timing, and PBCH/MIB information during initial access.
Tip: For FR1 C-band n78, many examples are around 3300–3800 MHz SSB frequency.

Convert SSB Frequency to GSCN

Enter SSB frequency in MHz to find the nearest valid GSCN and check if the value aligns with the synchronization raster.

SSB Frequency Use

Where engineers see this
Scanner tools, UE logs, gNB configuration, SSB planning, initial access debugging, and RF bring-up activities.

GSCN is not the same as NR-ARFCN. GSCN is related to SSB synchronization raster.

5G NR SSB / GSCN Band Reference

Search major 5G NR bands by band name, FR range, duplex type, or SSB frequency range.

Note: This table is a practical reference for major bands. Exact SSB positions depend on deployment band, synchronization raster rules, operator configuration and 3GPP release.

GSCN Formula Reference

SSB frequency raster
0–3000 MHz:
SSREF = N × 1.2 MHz + M × 0.05 MHz

3000–24250.08 MHz:
SSREF = 3000 MHz + N × 1.44 MHz

≥ 24250.08 MHz:
SSREF = 24250.08 MHz + N × 17.28 MHz
GSCNGlobal Synchronization Channel Number. It points to possible SSB locations.
SSBSynchronization Signal Block contains PSS, SSS and PBCH for cell detection.
Cell SearchUE searches SSB positions to identify and synchronize with a 5G cell.
FR1Sub-7 GHz 5G NR range. Common bands include n78, n77, n41, n28 and n1.
FR2mmWave range where synchronization raster spacing is much wider.
Testing UseUseful in scanner logs, gNB bring-up, protocol testing and RF troubleshooting.
